You Owe Me a Favor
Hello everyone! I feel like it’s been forever!
Hope you are
doing well, can we take a moment of silence and thank God for the sunny days!🌞
There has
been a myriad of activities here and there hence the long period of silence. So
let me give you some updates, my birthday went well (The last time I was
sharing how I am partly excited and nervous?) I had an amazing time with my
friends and spending time with God was my highlight as I entered into the new space.
There have
been a lot of things that have been brewing inside my heart. Which leads me to
today’s train of thought. Are you able to discern people for who they really are?
There is a lot of drama all over the world; let’s
even start with your favorite social media space, newspaper perhaps if you are
old-school. People are
in alleged situations because they were unable to discern .
I am not try
to play the role of one who has be endowed with the capacity to see motives
and soul search people’s intention . Far
from it, I am just poising the fact that we barely give people the credit they deserve.
Even if it’s bad credit for that matter, discern.
I was reading the story of Abigail in the
bible and what made her be dimmed as one of the wisest women of her times. The
contrast to her husband paled in comparison to the light that she was. A wise
woman who had a fool for a husband, a rich fool I must add.
The story is staged somewhere in Israel, David
is on the run from Saul. He is in the wilderness; he needs someone to bail him and
his men out, the hustle is getting tough. It’s like what people say when you
ask them how they are in the middle of the month “Tunajaribu tu”, That was David’s
Mood .
Prior to that, there was this time Nabal’s men
were grazing at the wilderness and so David had taken upon himself to like look
out for them. He wasn’t asked to do so , he just decided to be that GUY .
Now push came to shove, David remembered Nabal
and maybe the guy owes him a small kafavour .He thought what he done some time
back had gotten him to the ‘You Guy my Guy ‘ level and sent his men to ask for help.
They paid Nabal a courtesy visit.
I picture him
at his Condo with a bald head , a hairy face and a cigar . There are two men standing side to
side as his watching his sheep getting sheered.
One of the men on his side lowers his back and whispers to him “Some men
are here to see you, my Lord ".
He does not bother to look up; he uses his index finger to signal them to come in, the cigar now sandwiched on his lips.
He does not bother to look up; he uses his index finger to signal them to come in, the cigar now sandwiched on his lips.
The men are exhausted, they are not even welcomed for a cup of chai , water even . They
explain and say what had brought them and he retorts “Who is David!” (Blowing off some smoke off the air because he needs smoke signal for the men to understand,
how much of David he doesn’t know.
I need you
to understand that David had some credentials to his name, who could forget the
guy who slayed Goliath, it was okay that Nabal could not remember David’s
father but forgetting David? Nabal
dismissed the men, but Abigail got wind of the conversation.
When the men went back and reported to David,
I just loved how he said it “1st Samuel 25:22. David was so dramatic,
I can relate with his level of sarcasm and fury.
Before his anger leads him to a bloody mess, Abigail
shows up. When the Bible says this woman is intelligent please don’t ask why,
she comes bearing gifts. She not only does so, but appeases him with words,
words of affirmation. Also when the say
the way to a man’s heart is through the stomach, she matched up, her donkeys
had supplies of cakes, raisins all the
stomach could have desired .
She discerned who David was. Verse 30. She affirms Him as a mighty
man who God had a great promise over.
Can you
imagine that Nabal and Abigail lived in the same house yet had a different revelation
of the Man?
So Abigail
goes back home, I’m sure her conversation started like. “It’s funny how you
don’t know who David is?” What she said
was so lethal that Nabal’s heart died within Him.
Abigail discerned David while he was at his lowest.
When Nabal was reinforcing the fact David was some random dude, she was willing
to scratch through the surface and see the treasure in the man.
In Life, I
have come to learn that I cannot afford to dismiss people at face value. The people
that look like they need help could the people who will help you in the future.
Yes, Abigail fed David and his men for a season, but guess who fed Abigail for
the rest of her Life?......You guessed it David !
Eventually, Nabal died, when people dismiss you, they die! Hold up! I am not the devil’s
advocate here to kill; I got some revelation on this. They die in the script of
your life. I know Nabal died physically
but I feel like that is what happens to people. Their role is blotted off
because they excused themselves from the script by failing to see your value or
adding into it.
Remember Judas? He failed to see who Jesus
truly was and he succumbed to betraying him because he never really saw WHO he
was. That's why when it was Jesus vs the Coins , Judas decided to cash in and his script cashed out !
When people
fail to discern who you are? , don’t b dismayed, they were never part of the script.
Those that are meant for you have a lasting effect, they will feed you and you
will feed them because life is about Love. God desires that we see people in the light of who they are in HIM . Abigail was careful to remind David that even though you don't match up to your future , I know there is something great .
Just like the good Samaritan , everyone else in the script had a short-lived effect except the one that was willing to see beyond the hurt man and came to his rescue. Just like Jesus who came down not because we sent letters of petition to him , but like Abigail , He got wind that we need help and he came to offer us eternal help ! He is a part of our everyday script because he sees the good in us and is always championing that we may have life in abundance .
The truth is,
everyone that crosses your path is always there for a reason. Your discernment
of them determines the length and depth of their season.
