Why I am not Interested in Church - Unraveled !

If you are reading this, stretch your hands towards my procrastination and whisper a prayer!

This post was supposed to be out early last week but I constantly had the feeling it was not ready YET.  But here we are! Karibu .

Pardon my manners, How are you? I hope you can answer that with a smile. I hope you are genuinely in a good space and in case you are not, God is an EVER present help in times of our distress. You will be fine.

I am that girl that likes to invite people to church, from my family, friends, colleagues and even strangers. Not that there is anything specific about church, but I always feel like that is a cool hang out space , I know  ! So I mostly invite people to church, it’s a thing.

DISCLAIMER !!!! -  This has not been Sponsored by the church association Board ( Ha ha ) , I too have had my own struggles with the church setting , I have suffered deception, back stabbing , questioned the role of the modern church etc . That said , I am of the opinion that there is something to take out from all the experiences !

Let’s talk about church for a minute, especially because I have been turned down a couple of times and here are some of the reasons!

A rhetorical question … Are you curious or furious about Church?  ( Answer that slowly under your breath , no one has to know :) )

Church is full of hypocrites

Someone once told me, Church is like a hospital and not everyone wants to be healed but we are all there with One Physician. Some people are in church to speculate, to tick off a list of things done on Sunday.
The Pharisee’s and Sadducees adorned themselves with lengthy robes, praying to be heard by men, Jesus said that they have already received their reward.   Outwardly , they looked the part but inwardly filled with wickedness.
Jesus knew this and called them hypocrites , I hope you do realize that He ( Jesus) was kicked off from “ Church “ because he did not LOOK the part.

You see if you are more concerned with how Jesus looks on you more than the relationship with Him then hypocrisy starts then, because you will value applause than the cause of Faith.

The question is : are you in church for people or God, because if you are there for people, you will notice all the flaws and errs in Man. If God is the reason why you go, he will be the reason you grow, stay, move, transition, mature, thrive in church.

1.      Church is all about Money!

I find this one slightly funny not for anything, but the mere fact of how we have chosen to reason and revolve about it.
When Jesus goes to the temple to turn tables, whipping people who were making the temple a market place , that was not just a scene in the bible. This highly bothered Jesus at the time and I believe it still does !  His house is a place of Worship not a Den of robbers ! (Matt 21:12)
It bothers God that people are exploited in His church ,but that is why he has given us wisdom and discernment.
If a sales person cannot convince you to buy a plot in Ruai 70*&70 that you cannot afford (at the moment) why would you give in church what you cannot afford to give?
Let me qualify this, God is not after your money!
Trust me, If he was,  many of us would have never qualified for salvation,  because he would have enrolled us with a credit score.  He would have dealt with the highest bidder in the temple.  He is concerned with our faith, however little. It’s the only thing that pleases HIM.

I have seen people give beyond their means but there was an INNER Witness that prompted them. I believe the take out when you are asked to give more is when God is trying to stretch your capacity and breaking mental barriers!

Like the widow who hosted Elijah!   It had more to do with God moving in her household than the bread she had to give .
Unless God is prompting you to give, to believe him for more, do not fall into emotional manipulation of giving.
He wants us to prosper, sometimes it may mean that you have to put your faith into action, He might ask for A " son -like" offering  likeAbraham to just test where your heart is, but   he obvious won’t ask for a SON-LIKE OFFERING EVERY SUNDAY! (That is when you have to be in tune with the spirit of God to know when God is speaking)

God is a good God and he has the right intentions and he will never lead anyone to temptation.

2.      Church is in my heart

Are you smart and intelligent? Of course yes! ( duurh )  Did you have to go to school to enhance some sort of academic prowess?
You are talented, with amazing abilities; do you need a job to make ends meet? You have all this ideas in your head but they can only monetize if you work them out, right?
Then why would you want to work out every area in your life and leave out the most integral part ? - spiritual growth ?
You cannot make money mentally, pay bills mentally, you have to actualize.

Faith without actions is dead -  James 2:14-26

Paul writes : Philippians 12:2 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

The point is, you need Church, and you need a spiritual home to nurture the seed of God in you.

This topic has been heavy on my heart, I have carried its weight for so long and I don’t think I have done enough justice honestly.  I hope that you have gotten at least something !

Find a church, if you have one , keep inviting people to church, one day they will show up .

Also when you go to church, do not forget to question things. Not everything is said is 100% and that is why a Personal relationship with Jesus would do you good.

It will do you good because God’s word is the standard , not what the pastor says , what people say , what christian books say , but WHAT GOD SAYS IN HIS WORD IS TRUE and you can Bank it !

Church is You  and I, if we are not doing a good job of presenting who God is to the world , then we are the ones to blame . When people ask about Church , they see You and I, not the tiles , pillars and the roof ! We are the Church !

  1. The post genuinely peaks my interest. So when I talk about coming at a niche from a different angle, this post is exactly what I mean. Almost end of last year i decided not to miss church anymore. And, the results weren't so encouraging as you've heard from different people you said you met. But, this kinda gives me a better understanding of the whole church issue. Its only when we know its for God and us(specifically God and Me) , then the Pandora box is solved. Nice Post.Bookmarked!!!!!!!!!!!!! .cc. fashletters.wordpress.com

Why the Devil wants You for Dessert ! - On the Menu

Let’s agree to disagree, this year has a point to prove, it’s in a rush. It’s on the run to somewhere; it has to be there by December.     I am not sure whether I am the one experiencing this, but Sunday is such a throw stone away from Monday nowadays. It feels like yesterday I was huffing and puffing trying to get my resolutions together, it’s now July . Anyway I am buckling up and keeping up with the speed levels of 2018.   2018, if you can hear me, I am breaking sweat as well, we shall revisit and settle in December. .................... I love Nigerians, it’s not their Jollof rice or their incredible sense of art, and it’s their oomph! ,   I have a thing for their vigour. I find them so boisterous in their confession especially. You can tell when Jesus said, the kingdom suffers violence and the violent shall take it by force, that was for them.   I have limited knowledge about them but I have managed to gather a few traits here and...

Why God Would rather Shut You Up -He Does The Talking

I have missed you guys, can you tell ? really I have .  I miss you like the Sound of rain hitting the earth :)  Hope you are well. I would love to share from my heart to yours, shall I? I have been taking time off to listen, understand and try and comprehend why my 1+1=2 and God has a different answer that looks something like 11. Let me tell you of a man who had sort of the same issue of solving the equation. You see Moses was a man whom God had chosen as the deliverer for the Israelites from bondage. Right from the get, he was delivered by Pharaoh’s daughter into the Palace.  His life had been spared as  child while every male child was been killed .Deep down, Moses questioned God how he was going to deliver the Israelites, so he started solving disputes of injustices against his people which got him into trouble.  As a young man, he decided to flee from the trouble because now he has domez with his Pharaoh Aka Foster dad. From the Palace, he goes to ...

You Talk Too Much , Learn How to Walk !

Hey friends,  hope you are well.  It's been a while since I posted. Don't fret, the title is more of a rebuke to myself , but if the shoe fits , let's be corrected together!  I wanted to be ready enough to share from my heart . Recently , I was challenged by someone who posed this question " Are you talking a lot about Jesus more than you are actually spending time with Him "  That question has not only lingered,  but has made me question my depth as a child of God.  My silence has been intentional yet I somewhat struggled in bid to spend time with God.  Spending time with God can be uncomfortable  ,  uncomfortable not just for you but for others.  In God's presence, the truth about you is laid bare and he aligns you to himself.  Alignment in God's presence shakes off the unwanted baggage that we so like to wear around .  Luke 10:42 Jesus tells Martha,   42  but few things are needed—or indeed only one.
