What's Life Got to Do with This ?

"Adulting is the art of just winging it!" - the world .

"Adulting is the art of just WINging it - GOD

This post is a dedication to all the hard working adults who have been baptized into the river of responsibility.  Hold first, there is purpose .

You know what’s poignant about life? Is that we are hardly prepared for what's to come.

For instance, I have my qualms with the school system, surely why did they invest in teaching us parts of a locust, how does thorax add into your daily life?

Do you treat a roach beater because it owns a thorax?   How about, I dare you to use the word Mitochondrion in the next interaction you get into, you see what I mean?

Forgive my rants but I thrive to see practicality and intentionality in things. Maybe teach us how to file off taxes, emphasis on the need to recognize deadlines more often, or perhaps what it means to recycle plastics or saying thank or sorry  - such  life 101 nuggets .
.
This is not a jab to the education system, it is just an expression that I have held on and it felt like the right time to put that weight down, it was quite heavy .ha!

What I have learnt is that Adulting is real.

So real that someone on twitter said how they were so hungry, got home from work and cooked with a bag on their shoulder-unaware! Could I also talk about someone who replies emails in their dreams (okay, I made the last one up) but I hope you are getting the intensity of what I am saying.

The disciples were used to adulting. It was their norm before they met Jesus .

So Jesus comes into the picture and says: Cast your nets into the deep .
Luke 5:5

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

I need you to understand that they had been toiling all night.  To be honest, I think they just let their nets down to prove that they were not insane and Jesus was being unreasonable.

Whoa!  They harvested fish, their nets even broke out!  It felt like a dream.  The same place that they had been toiling gave them a harvest that they could not contain.

Let me bring this a little closer to where we live seeing that the only encounter some of us have with fish is in fillet roasted form.
……….

You are this sales person, selling insurance.  The whole day has been tough.  Your lips are cracking dry; your face is shinning, not of radiance but from the scorn of a hard sunny day.

It’s the fifth time you have been in that building at Kenyatta Avenue.  You are worn-out.  Adulting has had you feeling all types of low. In fact you are feeling so low, you cannot go lower than Kabete.

So anyway, you meet this guy at the lift.  He asks you what you do and since your day cannot get any worse, you tell him about insurance blah blah blah !

Then he suggests “Have you tried 5th floor?”

‘Boss’, you refer to him, not out of reverence but because you are too tired to enquire of his name – you are just tired.

“I was on 5th floor , jana !” you answer back, you almost want to cry  .

He politely asks you to try and go to fifth floor again.

You are a sales person and in sales, you are built from brick and mortar. You step out with the obedience of the 5th grader.
To your shock, you not only sell insurance, you sell out. You now have to call your offices in Bunyala to hook you up with more forms. Unbelievable!

…....

The disciples were used to catching fish; it was their live hood or hustle if we could dub it. Jesus comes into the picture and he tells them I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN!
Their experience in catching fish was not isolated; they just got upgraded to men.

Their ability to ‘catch’ held the tenacity, grip, resilience and dedication . That was the perfect ingredient to the very thing God had called them.

Just like me , there are people who are wondering what paying bills , waking up early , staying in the office till late , always having a love hate relationship with your calculator  has to do with Purpose .

God was just ministering to my heart that every experience shapes us for the sake of the kingdom. David was a mere boy looking after the sheep. His faithfulness to that flock proved him worthy to tend over God’s people.

Adulting is place we are all called into not to obscure us with the responsibilities ,but to get us enough substance to deal with the real purposes of God.

What you do in that office, how you support your siblings or parents without any trophies coming your way is a road to purpose.

The good news is that when Jesus come to the picture, the toil that was once associated with the disciples vanished.  Their responsibility was bigger but the assurance was firmer.

God holds us accountable with responsibilities but He wishes that we work from a place of rest.
He knows where the fish is in plenty, you do not have to toil the whole night. It may seem  cumbersome that you have to go through the motions , but God will eventually unveil you to see in retrospect that you are caved for this - Triumph in purpose.

The Promise was “I will make you Fishers of Men”, the truth is, they had the experience of Fishermen, and they just need to be redirected to a higher clout in purpose.

Wherever you are at in life or purpose, it may not look the part, but it is an ingredient to the magic God has called you into.

Trust the Process , but most important ... Trust the PROCESSOR !

Romans 8:28
And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
